Off Beat - Week 1

Dear Reader,

I will be changing the style of this newsletter. I will share content that I have found meaningful and often contrary to what I hear in popular news feed. My intention is to send opinions that might be different than what is popular.

Defintion of Success

I came across this definition of success that has made me questions many life choice that I have made in my life.

“For I have a single definition of success: you look in the mirror every evening, and wonder if you disappoint the person you were at 18, right before the age when people start getting corrupted by life. Let him or her be the only judge; not your reputation, not your wealth, not your standing in the community, not the decorations on your lapel. If you do not feel ashamed, you are successful. All other definitions of success are modern constructions; fragile modern constructions.”

On making long term improvements - Goals vs Habit

While achieving goals can be tiring and endless process, habits can not only yield results in the short-term but also improve overall happiness of your life. This video explains why.

Though provoking perspective on Afghanistan Issue

“There was no Afghan govt. They told you there was. The US propped up the country of Afghanistan with US taxpayer money and security forces. Once they cut them off, an indigenous militant group that had survived 20 years of war walked in. Shook hands and took over. No shots fired.

Americans were outraged, “why didn’t the Afghans fight to the last man against the Taliban?” Because they probably were fine with the Taliban ruling the country. As long as life is relatively normal, why fight?

There has been many conquests in history and the people just get on in life. It’s just another ruler to pay the same taxes too.”
